This week I've been wanting to write but am enrolled in an online course that takes priority. However, class got me thinking of some quick tidbits about learning and teaching. Here they are.

-Spring Lake NJ has the oldest Volunteer First Aid Squad in the nation. Belmar held the title as the oldest until they shut down a few years back

-Charles Wilbur Brahn was a founding member of Spring Lake First Aid Squad and served as Captain for 31 of its first 35 years.

-CW taught first aid to over 2,000 people in his time as an instructor with the American Red Cross.

-Margie Brahn has served as Captain, President, and in numerous other capacities since the 1980s. Over that time she has committed tens of thousands of hours to training.

Thank a first aider next time you see them. Our volunteer squad answers over 1,000 calls yearly. Their initial training to become an EMT takes 200+ hours! They also drill monthly and commit 16 hours per year to continuing education credits. SL First Aid's commitment to our town continues to be exemplary 98 years after its inception.
